Living for Jesus is
the only way to really live!
Right now, you
are probably living for yourself. You look out for yourself. Do what
you want to do. That’s normal. But it’s not what God desires for us
and it is not what is best for us. So, how do we even understand
what it even means to live for Jesus? How do we change from living
for ourselves to living for Jesus?
Think of your best
friend again. Learning to live for Jesus comes as you grow in your
relationship with Him. You do that the same way you grow in your
relationship with your best friend.
1. TALK TO HIM!
It’s called prayer, but it’s just as simple is talking to your best
friend. Talk to Him about anything and everything. Talk to Him
anytime and everywhere.
2. READ HIS WORD.
It’s
called the Bible. The Bible is God’s love letter to you. It tells
you all about Him. It’s also His instruction manual for you. Take it
slow and ask a lot of questions. Start in the New Testament
(Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John).
3. SURROUND YOURSELF
WITH OTHER BELIEVERS.
It’s called the church. Go to church. Get
plugged into a youth group. When you hang with other Christians they
can encourage you in your walk.
4. TELL OTHERS.
It’s
called talking. Don’t keep it a secret! Tell anyone and everyone
(friends, family, strangers, teachers) what Jesus has done and is
doing in your life and what He can do for them.
QUAKE has many ways to
help you LIVE for Jesus. Here are a few.
Confirmation:
Confirmation is a
class designed to help youth understand what it means to be a
disciple of Jesus Christ, a United Methodist, and a member of
Marysville First UMC. During this 10-12 week process, youth will
attend weekly classes, have regular meetings with a mentor, attend a
weekend retreat, and regularly attend worship, Sunday school, and
Sunday night youth group. The goal of confirmation is for youth to
make a public commitment to become a lifelong disciple of Jesus
Christ as well as an active and committed member of this church.
Discipleship Groups:
A Discipleship Bible
study group consist of a small group of same sex youth in similar
grades and in similar stages in spiritual development. All
discipleship groups meet on Wednesday nights either at the church,
in homes, or in designated locations (restaurant, gym, etc). Groups
meet from September through May. Some groups have an interest
focus. For instance, a group of girls who love to cook might begin
each meeting cooking a certain dish
and end with a Bible study.
